The on-site solutions do not require any software installation, since they come with ready-to-run templates that come with Microsoft Sharepoint. However, the Remote Access feature of Microsoft Exchange Server allows the exchange administrator to establish a client computer that connects to a remote computer running Microsoft Exchange Server and accesses the Exchange server using the standard mail transport protocol (EMS).

The Remote Access features of Microsoft Exchange Server to allow two or more remote computers to connect to the Exchange server at the same time. The first is the local computer that connects to the Exchange server as an on-site client. The second is the server computer that is connected to a Remote Access client computer. In a standard configuration, each of the computers that make up the Remote Access service can be represented by computers running Microsoft Exchange Server. However, it is possible to configure a number of different topologies for Remote Access that vary between two, four, eight and twelve computers.
