The growing Rapid Charge Network: our progress so far

The Rapid Charge Network (RCN) team is working with key partners to ensure the full coverage of the route.

It is thanks to network operators Ecotricity in the UK and ESB in Ireland that the project has managed to engage with so many sites to date including location partners such as Moto, Roadchef, IKEA and Welcome Break. The project has now installed 36 charge points with many more coming soon.

There has been some delays in the programme due to a large number of sites needing additional power connections however these are now being put in place and we have now signed up 90% of the sites needed.

We are also now moving on with progress to finish the remaining Welcome Break sites which will be installed over the next few months.

The project has recently installed some key locations including:

  • Our first Irish site has been completed at Stillorgan Luas Park and Ride.
  • The first two airport sites have been installed, at Liverpool and Birmingham airports.
  • Our first port site is installed at Holyhead, helping to make the connection with Ireland.

You can keep track of the latest progress on our map of the RCN charge points via our online map.
