Rural locations secured for the Rapid Charge Network
As well as some of the busiest sections of the UK motorways, the Rapid Charge Network (RCN) also covers rural areas of the UK.
Some of the sites originally identified have been challenging, with limited electrical capacity, so the team have been working hard to increase capacity at some locations as well as looking for alternative sites.
The RCN team has been hitting the road to identify potential sites in South West Scotland, North Wales and the East of England, speaking to potential partners along the route which has led to new sites signing up.
In Scotland this has led to some of the more unusual venues showing interest including a visitor centre and an independent hotel near Dumfries. The team are desperately seeking a further location in Stranraer and would welcome any suggestions from Scottish drivers.
The network in North Wales has also been boosted thanks to Eurogarages which has come forward as a partner and we have already installed charge points in Oswestry and Holywell with sites in Kinmel Park and Bangor coming soon.
Along the A14, A12 and A120 stretch, the project has also identified 8 sites along the route, and orders have already been placed for new power connections at two of those sites.
The Rapid Charge Network is supported by major industry partners, including:
